About Kathy

Kathy Schmaltz brings a wealth of experience to Lansing not only from her career but from her extensive experience with charitable and community organizations. She is a Michigan State graduate and a resident of the Jackson/Lansing area since the mid-70s. Kathy was a TV news anchor, writer, and Associate News Director of Community relations at Lansing’s WILX TV; she also co-hosted “In Focus” where she discussed public policy issues with state lawmakers and other state leaders.  Her involvement in the political arena ranges from being a moderator for political debates for local and state offices to being appointed by Governor John Engler to the Michigan Education Trust and the Michigan Hospital Finance Authority Board.   Kathy is ready to take her experience and passion for public service to Lansing.

Kathy has an extensive record of service to the community. She has been recognized by the State of Michigan for her dedicated work for big Brothers Big Sisters in Lansing Michigan, serving on the board and co-chairing Bowl for Kids for several years. For over 10 years, Kathy has been the Chair of the Jackson Grand Slam for Kids raising $12-15,000 every year to support at risk youth. She also served on the board for Easter Seals of Michigan and hosted more than 25 telethons for Easter Seals, Children’s Miracle Network and Arthritis Foundation.    Kathy is committed to serving for the greater good having also been involved with 100 Women Who Care, the Michigan Dyslexia Institute, the United Way, the American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross.   Kathy will bring this enthusiasm for helping others to Lansing.
